6351 | Biological Role of Trace Elements and Viral Pathologies The review presents summarized information on a new research avenue in biogeochemistry and geochemical ecology: relationships between the microcosm (viruses) and manifestations of animal and human pathologies. Some aspects of the biological action of selenium, zinc, copper and iodine, their influence on the manifestation and course of viral infections are considered. Attention is focused on the antioxidant, membrane-protective, boosting immunity, hormonal functions of trace elements, and on the antibacterial and antiviral properties of metallic copper and its compounds. The criteria currently applied in assessing the Se status of territories are compared with the incidence of COVID-19 and HIV in the population of the Russian Federation. In some cases, selenium deficiency in the environment is shown to be associated with a higher susceptibility to RNA viral infections. Emphasis is put on the necessity of improving the criteria for assessing the trace element status of territories and further studies in the geochemical ecology of viruses and their role in the biosphere. | N/A | 2022 | | CORD-19 |
6352 | Online-Sprachunterricht mit der PDL (Sprachpsychodramaturgie): Wege zu einer virtuellen Begegnung: Erfahrungen mit Psychodrama-Online in der Fremdsprachenpädagogik This article deals with the digital implementation of psychodrama in the pedagogical area of language teaching with the PDL Method (Psycho-dramaturgy for Language Acquisition). It reflects on the possibilities of effectively shaping the group-oriented learning processes that underlie the PDL approach in the virtual environment and of enabling encounters in the psycho-dramatic sense. Practical examples highlight the opportunities and risks of a new, virtual environment as it relates to the language learning experience. Digital formats are viewed within the context of a social development that no longer holds virtual media as the prerogative of technology enthusiasts, but rather as a necessity in many areas of our professional and private lives. | N/A | 2022 | | CORD-19 |
6353 | Emerging complications of COVID-19 in a subset of Indian population: a pathological review with clinico-radiological case scenarios BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization on 11 March 2020 has been reported in most countries around the world since its origins in Wuhan, China. As of September 2021, there have been over 229 million cases of COVID-19 reported worldwide, with over 4.7 million COVID-19–associated deaths. BODY: The devastating second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India has seen a rise in various extrapulmonary manifestations. One of key components in the pathogenesis of COVID-19 is downregulation of ACE-2, which is expressed on many organs and counterbalances the pro-inflammatory effects of ACE/angiotensin-II axis. This leads to influx of inflammatory cells into alveoli, increased vascular permeability and activation of prothrombotic mediators. Imaging findings such as ground glass opacities, interlobular septal thickening, vascular dilatation and pulmonary thrombosis correlate well with the pathogenesis. CONCLUSION: We hypothesize that the systemic complications of COVID-19 are caused by either direct viral invasion or effect of cytokine storm leading to inflammation and thrombosis or a combination of both. Gaining insights into pathobiology of SARS-CoV-2 will help understanding the various multisystemic manifestations of COVID-19. To date, only a few articles have been published that comprehensively describe the pathophysiology of COVID-19 along with its various multisystemic imaging manifestations. | N/A | 2022 | | CORD-19 |
6354 | NiCoCrAlX (X = Y, Hf and Si) Bond Coats by Cold Spray for High Temperature Applications MCrAlX powder compositions (M = Ni,Co and X = Y, Hf, Si or combination) are often thermally sprayed via vacuum plasma spray (VPS), low pressure plasma spray (LPPS) or high velocity oxy-fuel to produce high temperature oxidation and hot corrosion resistant bond coats for thermal barrier coatings (TBCs). Cold spray technology is currently considered as a promising alternative to the traditional thermal spray solutions, having the advantage of delivering oxide-free and very dense metallic coatings at relatively lower costs compared to VPS and LPPS. NiCoCrAlY and NiCoCrAlYHfSi bond coats were deposited using a high pressure cold spray system and the influence of feedstock properties on the deposited bond coats were investigated. To improve NiCoCrAlYHfSi bond coat deposition, laser assisted cold spray (LACS) was employed. The results show that LACS can be successfully used to deposit this particular powder while eliminating nozzle erosion and low deposition efficiency disadvantages observed with conventional cold spray. To identify the optimal LACS setup for deposition of dense and uniform coatings, different laser/spray jet configurations were examined. TBCs with bond coats sprayed at the optimal configuration were assessed isothermally at 1150 °C in air for up to 500 h, and the results showed formation of a thermally grown oxide layer composed of predominantly Al(2)O(3) with embedded small clusters of Hf-Y-rich oxides. | N/A | 2022 | | CORD-19 |
6355 | Learning From the Past to Improve the Future: Value-Added Services as a Driver for Mass Adoption of Contact Tracing Apps Contact tracing apps were considered among the first tools to control the spread of COVID-19 and ease lockdown measures. While these apps can be very effective at stopping transmission and saving lives, the level of adoption remains significantly below the expected critical mass. The public debate as well as academic research about contact tracing apps emphasizes general concerns about privacy (and the associated risks) but often disregards the value-added services, as well as benefits, that can result from a larger user base. To address this gap, the study analyzes goal-congruent features as drivers for user adoption. It uses market research techniques – specifically, conjoint analysis – to study individual and group preferences and gain insights into the prescriptive design. While the results confirm the privacy-preserving design of most European contact tracing apps, they emphasize the role of value-added services in addressing heterogeneous user segments to drive user adoption. The findings thereby are of relevance for designing effective contact tracing apps, but also inform the user-oriented design of apps for health and crisis management that rely on sharing sensitive information. | N/A | 2022 | | CORD-19 |

6363 | "Trying as Hard as I Can"- Narratives of Failure and Success in the Experience of Housing Insecurity The housing crisis represents a liminal experience: a loss of the taken-for-granted and the suspension of ontological security has put individuals in a situation of potentiality in which both conceptions of home and of personal identity are open to transformation. Empirically assessing this liminal transition allows us to understand the refiguration processes of both home and subjectivities. This has both conceptual and political implications: with ongoing individualization of responsibility in virtually all spheres of social life, it is no longer possible to assume that the private sphere of home is an arena in which individuals are free and secured from societal forces, pressures, and compulsions. Instead, we might find ourselves in a transient liminal period in which the very meaning and psycho-social foundation of home are being transformed. To understand these processes is not only an epistemological but also a political endeavor, for only by understanding the psycho-social implications of the housing crisis can we acknowledge its embeddedness in and relation to processes of societal individualization, as well as the potential to open up pathways to the emergence of a liminal communitas. | N/A | 2022 | | CORD-19 |

6365 | Predictor factors for non-invasive mechanical ventilation failure in severe COVID-19 patients in the intensive care unit: a single-center retrospective study BACKGROUND: During the COVID-19 pandemia, non-invasive mechanical ventilation (NIV) has been largely applied. Few data are available about predictors of NIV failure in critical COVID-19 patients admitted to ICU. The aim of this study is to analyze clinical and laboratory features able to predict non-invasive ventilation success in avoiding endotracheal intubation. METHODS: A retrospective observational study was performed in our COVID-19 ICU during a 6-month period. Demographic, clinical, laboratory, imaging, and outcome data were extracted from electronic and paper medical records and anonymously collected. RESULTS: Eighty-two severe COVID-19 patients were supported by NIV at ICU admission. The median PaO(2)/FiO(2) ratio was 125 [98.5–177.7]. NIV failed in 44 cases (53%). Patients who experienced NIV failure had a higher Charlson Comorbidity Index (median value 4) compared to those who were dismissed without endotracheal intubation (median 2, p < 0.0001). At Cox regression analysis, the Charlson Comorbidity Index represented a predictive factor related to NIV failure. PaO(2)/FiO(2), CPK, INR, and AT III at ICU admission showed a significant relationship with the outcome, when single variables were adjusted for the Charlson Comorbidity Index. CONCLUSION: The Charlson Comorbidity Index may be helpful to stratify patients’ risk of NIV failure in a severe COVID-19 population; even if this study, retrospective design does not allow definitive conclusions. 6367 | Venture Capital in the Rise of Sustainable Investment In recent years, the world has witnessed a soaring inflow of capital into sustainable investment. This is particularly so following the devastating COVID-19 pandemic. However, while a growing amount of literature has been deliberating debt financing in sustainable investment, less ink has been spilt on equity financing in this area, and even less scholarship has explored the role of government and law in supporting sustainable venture capital (‘VC’) funds. This paper proposes a dualist approach towards facilitating the development of sustainable VC funds encompassing a contractarian strategy with government support. The contractarian approach includes effective contracting covering the entire VC cycle in sustainable investment. It aims to provide strong incentives for all participants, ranging from investors, entrepreneurs and fund managers, to credit-rating agencies and evaluation firms. In the same vein, this paper seeks to craft a role for regulators that facilitates the simultaneous availability of several factors in a sustainable VC cycle (i.e., fund raising, investment and exit). In the fund-raising stage, governments can play an active role by expanding the source of financing for sustainable VC funds and enacting detailed and targeted legislation. In the VC investment stage, sustainable VC funds should make full use of their strong corporate governance rights and monitoring tasks to ensure that start-ups deliver on their sustainable promises. In the exit stage, a specialised sustainability board is strongly recommended to offer viable exit options, together with greater standardisation and comparability in sustainability information disclosure, and regulatory support for trustworthy sustainable impact rating agencies to sustain investor confidence. | N/A | 2022 | | CORD-19 |

6369 | How does the absorbed slack impact corporate social responsibility? Exploring the nonlinear effect and condition in China This study investigates the impact of absorbed slack on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the moderating effects of political and equity relationships on the main effect. Multiple regression analysis was used on 2175 samples of 435 publicly listed Chinese firms for the period 2012 to 2016 to empirically test the influence of absorbed slack on CSR. The empirical results show that the impact of absorbed slack on CSR is inverted U-shaped. Furthermore, when compared to companies with low political connections, the inverted U-shape between the absorbed slack and CSR in highly politically connected companies is more pronounced. Compared to companies with low ownership concentrations, the inverted U-shape between absorbed slack and CSR in high ownership concentration enterprises is more pronounced. | N/A | 2022 | | CORD-19 |
6370 | Politics, power and precarity: how tenant organizations transform local political life As the coronavirus pandemic exacerbated housing precarity, tenant organizations grew in numbers and salience. But membership-based tenant organizations predated the pandemic and will persist beyond it. There are (at least) hundreds of them in localities across the country. Many aim to advance sweeping change. In doing so, they face formidable tasks: politically organizing in race-class subjugated communities, working in opposition to powerful actors (corporate landlords, property managers, etc.), and navigating complex and sometimes hostile local political institutions (city councils, mayors, rent boards, etc.). How do these organizations build power and effect change in the face of such obstacles? Drawing on a rich body of original qualitative evidence (participant observation and in-depth interviews), this paper explores the politics of local tenant organizations. We assess the origins of such organizations, how they are structured, and how they pursue political change. In doing so, we offer a rich descriptive account of phenomena that have largely escaped the attention of political scientists. We find that tenant organizations can cultivate radically different ways of conceptualizing political economy, carve out a distinctive political focus on race-class subjugated communities, and create critical opportunities for otherwise marginalized actors to develop and exercise political power. | N/A | 2022 | | CORD-19 |
6371 | Going (in)conspicuous: antecedents and moderators of luxury consumption As a result of the increasing worldwide luxury expenditure, and consequently, its democratization, consumers in mature markets feel that luxury has lost its uniqueness and exclusivity. Despite academia having deemed conspicuousness and luxury connected, this study intends to determine the main antecedents of (in)conspicuous luxury consumption, and cross-culturally analyze both conspicuous and inconspicuous luxury consumption. A partial least square structure equational model was conducted. The data collection framework followed a traditional SEM data collection and consequent analysis. The results revealed that consumer need for uniqueness is an antecedent of inconspicuousness luxury consumption, while cultural capital has a negative effect on conspicuous luxury consumers, mediated by susceptibility to normative influence. Additionally, between Southern European and Central/Eastern European consumers, cultural capital impacts differently on luxury consumption. By adopting a critical view of the nature of luxury, analyzing its conceptual evolution through the ages, and matching it to its current landscape via identifying antecedents of inconspicuous luxury consumption, this study is a steppingstone for luxury consumption research, as it postulates a new understanding of what constitutes luxury consumption, thus opening up new research avenues for academia. | N/A | 2022 | | CORD-19 |
6372 | SFM Interim Practice Recommendations for Zika Virus Infection in Pregnancy Zika virus (ZIKV) belongs to the family of flaviviruses and is transmitted by mosquitoes of the genus Aedes (A. aegypti and A. albopictus). ZIKV infection in pregnancy can have serious implications on the fetus and the neonate. Vertical transmission to the fetus can occur irrespective of symptomatic or asymptomatic infection in the pregnant woman and the risk can persist throughout pregnancy. The exact frequency of maternal-to-fetal transmission of Zika virus is difficult to determine accurately. The greatest risk of serious fetal sequelae is seen if the infection occurs within the first and second trimester. However, they can also be seen with infections in the third trimester. This document describes the presentation, feto-maternal manifestations, role of prenatal Ultrasound in diagnosis of infection, testing methods and the management in pregnancy and screening in the neonatal period. In the absence of robust evidence as to the definite effects, this document is aimed at providing practice recommendations for the management of this infection. | N/A | 2022 | | CORD-19 |
6373 | Strategies deemed important by frontline healthcare providers for their mental wellbeing during first wave of COVID-19 pandemic BACKGROUND: Global research so far has demonstrated a significant psychological impact on frontline healthcare workers and the need to support them. Mitigation strategies are vital to ensure psychological wellbeing of healthcare workers and should take healthcare workers experiences and views into consideration. However, qualitative research on this topic has been limited from the Arab world and we set out to fill this research gap. The objective was to understand participants’ emotional experiences and identify their valued aspects of support, to inform potential mitigation strategies for their psychological wellbeing. METHODS: Content analysis of free-text comments of a web-based survey of healthcare workers associated with the COVID-19 designated hospital and quarantine sites in Qatar, during the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic. Extracts and phrases were used to identify potential themes, with relevant quotes gathered within identified themes. RESULTS: A total of 779 staff members were invited to participate in this study and 286 responded. The results indicate that strategies around infection control practice, personal protective equipment, SARS-CoV-2 testing, workload, financial compensation, religion, psychological support and engaged leadership are deemed important by frontline healthcare workers to maintain their mental wellbeing. CONCLUSIONS: Mitigating factors identified by healthcare workers to protect their psychological wellbeing should inform the organizational strategy. 6376 | Testing the impact of fiscal policies for economic recovery: does monetary policy act as catalytic tool for economic Survival This study seeks to evaluate the efficacy of macroeconomic revamping policies operationalized after the pandemic by fiscal and monetary regulators to fight the pandemic in China. This study aims to assess what the Chinese economic recovery implies after the pandemic regarding economic expansion and energy consumption of different economies utilizing an econometric approximation relying on data throughout the COVID-19 phase. Within the extended stage, Chinese economic development spillover impacts attain the same effect on upper-middle-income nations' economic expansion of 0.18 percent, next to the economic development, of lower-middle-income countries of 0.15 percent and high-income nations. We discover proofs of robust direct provincial spillovers, implying that provinces tend to construct a cluster of high-performing and low-performing areas, a procedure that accentuates regional earnings variances. Applying the experience of revamping previous financial crisis, we replicate the impact of the pandemic on the competence of these, and by far, other upper limit income nations to build back better from the pandemic to jobs occasioned by proofs of the pandemic. The spillover impact of China’s economic revival past the pandemic phase's carries a critical effect on the expansion in energy consumption in high-income nations, subsequently middle-income nations. As total factor productivity headwinds underpin economic growth, fiscal policy is the only policy that probably sustains the pollution intensities and concurrently advances household well-being regarding consumption and jobs. | N/A | 2022 | | CORD-19 |

6378 | Co-encapsulation of vitamin D and rutin in chitosan-zein microparticles There is a growing interest in co-encapsulating multiple species to harness potential synergy between them, enhance their stability and efficacy in various products. The aim of this work was to co-encapsulate vitamin D(3) and rutin inside chitosan-zein microparticles using a simple and easily scalable process for food fortification. This was achieved via anti-solvent precipitation coupled with spray-drying. Free-flowing powders of spherical microparticles with wrinkled surface and particle size < 10 μm were obtained. The encapsulation efficiency was 75% for vitamin D(3) and 44% for rutin and this could be attributed to their different molecular size and affinity to the aqueous phase. The physicochemical properties were characterized by X-Ray powder diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The two crystalline bioactive compounds were present in the microparticles in amorphous form, which would allow for better bioavailability when compared to non-encapsulated crystalline solid. Therefore, the obtained microparticles would be suitable for use as food ingredient for vitamin D(3) fortification, with the co-encapsulated rutin acting as stability and activity enhancer. | N/A | 2022 | | CORD-19 |

6382 | What are the Driving Forces Behind Spanish Publishers? This research intends to perform a situation analysis of the Spanish publishing sector to see to what extent private publishing companies adequately interpret market signals and adapt to them. The study raises several questions for the Spanish publishing market: first, how is the price elasticity of the sale of copies?; second, what impact does the greater or lesser number of private publishers have on the sale of copies?; third, how does the sale of copies condition the evolution of the average print run?; and fourth, what impact does reading habit have on issue sales? The analysis carried out concludes: firstly, that the sale of copies is a price-elastic function to the price of books; second, that the greater the number of publishing agents, the higher the level of book sales; thirdly, those publishing companies adapt the average print runs per title in a period based on the copies sold on the market in the previous period and, finally, fourthly, the existence of a positive and direct relationship between the copy sales and the number of regular readers. 6398 | Environmental Sustainability Framework for Plastic Waste Management-a Case Study of Bubble Tea Industry in Malaysia Economic growth and rapid industrialisation have led to enormous increase in municipal solid waste (MSW). Lack of waste management alternatives and ineffective waste policy implementation are the major challenges for government to materialise a sustainable solid waste management framework, especially for plastic waste. Booming of the food and beverage (F&B) industry has aggravated the situation by generating more plastic waste with no economic values. Hence, this study aims to evaluate the overall environmental performance of existing and alternative waste management technologies that are available in Malaysia based on net greenhouse gas (GHG) emission in terms of carbon dioxide equivalent (kg CO(2)-eq) per tonne of plastic waste that are analysed through life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology. LCA result has proven that Scenario B (waste to energy (WTE) incineration) is more environmentally preferable as it had a negative net GHG emission of − 573.80 kg CO(2)-eq as compared to GHG emission of existing Scenario A (sanitary landfill) of 566.15 kg CO(2)-eq. Negative net GHG emission in WTE incineration was mainly due to higher GHG saving achieved through cleaner electricity generation as compared to conventional power production. This alternative technology was proven to have the potential to reduce the dependence on landfills and is served as the basis of environmental sustainability framework development for plastic waste management based on case study in Malaysia. This framework can be served as the baseline for the local authorities or policy makers for other plastic waste generation hotspots other than bubble tea industry to improve plastic waste management via WTE incineration. | N/A | 2022 | | CORD-19 |
6399 | Economic and emotional impact of COVID-19 pandemic on phoniatricians' practice in Egypt BACKGROUND: COVID-19 is not only a health crisis; it has the potential to create devastating social, as well as economic crises. Health care practitioners are the category with the highest diffusion of the contagion. The aim was to determine the economic and emotional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on phoniatricians in Egypt in an attempt to analyze this data to determine the magnitude of this effect and if it is age and/or location specific. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: An online structured Google-free form survey composed of 49 questions was created and sent online to phoniatricians all over Egypt. The survey was divided into three sections about demographic, economical then emotional-related questions. The studied group was further subdivided into 2 groups according to age and location for comparison purposes. RESULTS: 82.5% of phoniatricians confirmed that the pandemic had a lot of negative impact on their practice. About 37.5% reduced their practices to urgent procedures and the same percentage closed their practice. The expenses of 56.3% exceeded their income. 91.2% had negative feelings when thinking about the pandemic. The economic problems have affected 71.3% of the participants emotionally. The pandemic had comparable negative impact on the economic and emotional aspects of both age groups. However, the younger age group suffered more from getting infected, and they thought more about career shift and was the group that needed psychological support during the pandemic.
