5445The poverty evolution of typical countries along the Belt and Road and implications from China's poverty reduction experiences

The world is facing a poverty crisis. Despite the great achievements that have been made in poverty alleviation over the past two decades, the extent of poverty in countries along the Belt and Road is still high. Successful poverty reduction in these countries is crucial to meeting the 2030 SDGs. Improving governance to eradicate poverty is a shortcoming that needs to be addressed urgently in poverty reduction pathways along the Belt and Road. In this study, the Standard Deviational Ellipse method was used to study the spatial trajectory of the poverty gravity center. Results showed that the poverty gravity center moved from east to west by 87.60 km annually, while the poverty population decreased by 1211.14 million along the Belt and Road from 2000 to 2020. In addition, the trajectory of the center has shifted due to the different effects of poverty reduction. Among the countries situated along the Belt and Road, China is the most significant contributor to poverty reduction. Accordingly, this study examined the implications of China’s successful poverty reduction strategies in order to understand how other countries can effectively respond to poverty. Ultimately, we propose that sustainable poverty alleviation development strategies should be established with the objectives of promoting social equity and improving the wellbeing of all people.

5446COVID-19, Violent Crime and Domestic Violence: An Exploratory Analysis

As the world continues to struggle with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been much speculation on the impact of the virus on crime rates, especially violent crime and domestic violence. Disruptions in the patterns of daily, routine activities of life caused by lockdowns have been linked to changes in opportunities for criminal events, and these opportunities may vary based on the type of crime. The purpose of this paper is to examine the rates of violent interpersonal crime and domestic violence in the State of Florida, USA from 1/1/2020 to 12/31/2020. Using counties as the unit of analysis, the rates for selected violent crimes was predicted based on the differential impact of the COVID-19 virus, controlling for various county-level social vulnerability and health-related factors. Comparisons between violent crime levels in 2019 and 2020 were also made. Under opportunity theory, it was predicted that the level of domestic violence would increase in counties that experienced higher infection rates and deaths from COVID-19. Conversely, it was predicted that interpersonal violence would decrease in counties with greater impacts and restrictions due to the COVID-19 virus. The results suggest that as the COVID-19 death rate increased, incidents of domestic violence decreased. Altruism was proposed as an alternative explanation for this atypical finding. 5448Analyzing genderless fashion trends of consumers' perceptions on social media: using unstructured big data analysis through Latent Dirichlet Allocation-based topic modeling

After the development of Web 2.0 and social networks, analyzing consumers’ responses and opinions in real-time became profoundly important to gain business insights. This study aims to identify consumers’ preferences and perceptions of genderless fashion trends by text-mining, Latent Dirichlet Allocation-based topic modeling, and time-series linear regression analysis. Unstructured text data from consumer-posted sources, such as blogs and online communities, were collected from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020. We examined 9722 posts that included the keyword “genderless fashion” with Python 3.7 software. Results showed that consumers were interested in fragrances, fashion, and beauty brands and products. In particular, 18 topics were extracted: 13 were classified as fashion categories and 5 were derived from beauty and fragrance sectors. Examining the genderless fashion trend development among consumers from 2018 to 2020, “perfume and scent” was revealed as the hot topic, whereas “bags,” “all-in-one skin care,” and “set-up suit” were cold topics, declining in popularity among consumers. The findings contribute to contemporary fashion trends and provide in-depth knowledge about consumers’ perceptions using big data analysis methods and offer insights into product development strategies.

5449Pathological and Microbiological Findings in Free-Ranging Bats in Italy

Introduction: Recent studies have shown that bats are the reservoir hosts of several novel viruses, increasing the interest in bats as potential vectors of zoonotic pathogens. Several studies investigated the presence of infectious agents in bats, but their impact on the individual host and their importance on bat mortality is largely unknown. The aim of this study was to describe the microbiological and histopathological findings in 77 deceased bats belonging to nine European species (families Vespertilionidae and Molossidae). Materials and Methods: Bat carcasses were collected in the Piedmont region (Italy) by the Unconventional Rehabilitation Centre (CANC), Torino University, and submitted to necropsy. Species, age and sex of each bat were recorded. Virological (orthoreovirus, coronavirus, flavivirus, rhabdovirus, poxvirus, kobuvirus) and histopathological examinations were performed on the main organs (liver, spleen, kidney, gut, lung, heart and brain). Results: Traumatic injuries (fractures, haemorrhages, skin lesions;43%) and predation injuries (8.4%) represented the two main causes of death. Regardless of species, age and sex, the pathological examination revealed inflammatory/degenerative lesions mainly involving liver (non-suppurative hepatitis and vacuolar degeneration;20.8%) and lung (bronchopneumonia;29.9%). Coronavirus, flavivirus, rhabdovirus and kobuvirus were not detected. Poxviruses were detected in three lungs, two with pneumonia, and 14.3% of animals were positive for reoviruses. Conclusions: This study demonstrates the importance of inflammatory lesions in bat mortality, and shows that bats can harbour infectious agents. However, there is no evidence that Italian bats may represent a severe risk for human health.
